1. Introduction

This Privacy Policy explains how Speechord ("Speechord," "the Service," "we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and protects information when you use the Speechord communication platform at https://speechord.com and any associated applications and services. It should be read together with our Terms of Service. By using the Service, you agree to the practices described here.

2. Our Privacy Philosophy

Speechord is built for free expression and minimal surveillance. We collect only the information we need to run the Service. We do not sell or rent your personal information, we do not show advertising, and we do not build behavioral profiles of you. Speechord is self-hosted on infrastructure we control.

3. Information We Collect

(a) Information you provide

(b) Information collected automatically

(c) Voice and video

When you join a voice or video conversation, your audio and video are relayed in real time through our media server. We do not record or store the contents of voice or video calls.

4. How We Use Information

We use information to: provide and maintain the Service; authenticate you and secure your account; deliver your messages and content to their intended recipients; send transactional emails (such as verification, password-reset, and new-login authorization messages, sent from noreply@speechord.com); prevent, detect, and respond to abuse, fraud, security incidents, and illegal content; comply with legal obligations; and operate and improve the Service.

5. Legal Bases (for users in the EEA/UK)

Where the EU or UK GDPR applies, we process personal data on these legal bases: performance of our contract with you (providing the Service); our legitimate interests (securing the Service, preventing abuse, and keeping it running); your consent (for optional features such as push notifications); and compliance with legal obligations.

6. Cookies and Local Storage

We use cookies and/or browser local storage that are strictly necessary to keep you logged in and to operate the Service (for example, session and authentication tokens). We do not use advertising or third-party tracking cookies. Because we do not track you across other websites, "Do Not Track" browser signals have no cross-site activity to disable.

7. How We Share Information

We do not sell or rent your personal information. We share it only as follows:

8. Data Retention

We keep account information for as long as your account is active. Your content is retained until you delete it or delete your account, except for residual copies that may persist in backups for a limited period or where retention is required by law. Security and connection logs are kept only as long as needed for security and abuse-prevention purposes, and are then deleted or anonymized.

9. Data Security

We protect information using measures including encryption in transit (TLS), hashed password storage, access controls, and network-level DDoS protection. Please note that messages and content are stored on the server and are not end-to-end encrypted, which means the operator is technically able to access stored data; we access it only as necessary to operate, secure, or provide the Service, or to meet a legal obligation. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

10. Your Rights and Choices

You can access and update much of your information directly in the Service, and you can delete your account at any time. Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export your personal data, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to withdraw consent.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at support@speechord.com. We will respond as required by applicable law.

11. Children's Privacy

The Service is not intended for anyone under 16, and you must be at least 16 years old to use it. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If we learn that we have collected such information, we will delete it.

12. International Users and Data Location

The Service is operated and hosted in the United States. If you access it from outside the United States, you understand and agree that your information will be processed in the United States, where data-protection laws may differ from those in your country.

13. Third-Party Links and Content

The Service may contain links to, or content from, third-party websites and services that we do not control. This Policy does not apply to those third parties, and we are not responsible for their privacy practices.

14. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Policy from time to time. We will indicate changes by updating the "Last Updated" date above and, where practical, by providing notice within the Service. Your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Policy.
